Systems Engineer, Veeco Instruments

  • The systems engineer leads the successful coordination of engineering and manufacturing to deliver systems to the specific customer configuration.
  • Balancing engineering skills, manufacturing understanding, and customer communications, this position provides both breadth and depth in the engineering discipline.
  • This position is best suited to individuals that appreciate advanced equipment design and enjoy seeing equipment built and delivered to the success of the customers.
  • The systems design engineer will coordinate 3 – 5 projects per year, with each project ranging in value from $600,000 to more than $3,000,000.
  • The position has regular interface to all of engineering, manufacturing, and has regular contact with the executive management team.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides project support and leadership to engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customer for large-scale process vacuum systems.
  • Actively participates in the design and coordination of large and complex systems.
  • Has the ability to analyze, model and solve interdisciplinary system problems. Maintains schedules, and mitigates risk factors in engineering and manufacturing that may impact achievement of on-time system delivery.
  • Is the primary interface between management, customers, suppliers and specialty engineers in the systems development process.
  • Provides a single point-of-contact from the receipt of the customer order, to the final factory acceptance of the system by the customer.
  • Coordinates cross-department teams to ensure accuracy of engineering requirements and designs, and ability to successfully manufacture.
  • Schedules and leads customer communications and visits, including factory acceptance testing by the customers.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Previous equipment design, or experience with semiconductor, vacuum equipment, or other similar high tech, large-scale equipment.
  • Previous experience with SAP or similar MRP software, beneficial, but not required.
  • Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and Microsoft PowerPoint.Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Good common sense and creative problem solving skills.
  • Technical competency and aptitude for systems thinking.
  • Ability to adapt to many environments, wear many hats and interact with a diverse group of individuals.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS Degree in one of the following: Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering;Material Science or Physics.
  • Previous capital equipment (design or process) experience, preferably in the area of vacuum systems, or Automation.
  • Multidisciplinary, complex product experienceAutoCAD or Solidworks experience preferred.
  • ERP/MRP experience preferred.

JOB NOTE:

Veeco St. Paul manufactures molecular beam epitaxy high-vacuum systems in its St. Paul facility. These systems consist of a vacuum system, in-vacuum robot, and electronics that are built to customer configurations from a standard product line.
