Development Engineer III - Vacuum Deposition System, First Solar, Inc.

Responsibilities:

  • Primarily responsible for process and applications development using vapor transport deposition (VTD) technology for the formation of semiconductor thin-films on glass for photovoltaic devices. Activities will include: investigation of new hardware, developing metrology for vacuum deposition systems, designing and executing test matrices, and troubleshooting of vacuum systems.
  • Provides expertise for design of systems, modules and subcomponents of semiconductor deposition equipment to be operated in a vacuum environment
  • The candidate will be expected to be proficient in the theory and operations of vacuum deposition systems. Knowledge of vapor transport deposition (VTD) systems preferred.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineering and operators to transfer process improvements from development to production.
  • Apply low energy plasma and laser process for research/development of subcomponents of semiconductor deposition equipment involving hands-on design, testing and qualifying of equipment, and user interaction.
  • Highly organized and able to work on several projects at once. The position requires an individual who is able to meet deadlines and work in a fast paced environment.
  • Analyze test results, write reports on process development and qualification of new process/products.
  • Develop and write equipment specifications, performance requirements, and operational work instructions.
  • Participate in developing new vacuum deposition techniques, related tools and technologies.
    Occasionally, maintain and repair vacuum systems and various metrology equipments.

Experience Requirements:

  • At least 5 years experience in experience in thin film deposition.
  • Should have working experience with semiconductor processes and metrology techniques with a strong mechanical aptitude and good understanding of pneumatic, electrical and vacuum systems.
  • Experience vacuum system diagnostics and design of metrology for vacuum systems
  • Strong knowledge in the area of thin film optical characterization.
  • Should have SPC, DOE and data analysis experience.

Education Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Electrical, Chemical, Material Science, Physics or similar technical discipline
  • PhD preferred.
