Dow Corning was established in 1943 specifically to explore the potential of silicones. It was created as a joint venture between Corning Glass Works (now Corning, Incorporated) and The Dow Chemical Company. More than half of Dow Corning’s annual sales are outside the United States. Turnover is just under $5 billion with 10,000 employees world wide.
The company provides performance-enhancing solutions to serve the diverse needs of more than 20,000 customers. It is a global leader in silicon-based technology and innovation, offering more than 7,000 products and services. Dow Corning is based in Midland, Michigan, U.S. and is the global leader on the silicone market. The Seneffe site in Belgium, established in 1970, is the European Headquarters and houses all the commercial, production and research and development activities for the Sealants/Fluids and Emulsions. There are about 600 people working on the site. Products developed in Seneffe are used in many industries including construction, detergents, cosmetics, textiles and paper.
More than 95% is exported world wide. In addition to the excitement that surrounds our new science is an excitement of vision for new commercial applications. For example, Dow Corning and Genencor International created a strategic alliance to combine their expertise in biotechnology and silicon chemistry to create a new, proprietary Silicon Biotechnology™ technology platform.Dow Corning has also formed strategic alliances to develop the next generation of products, including photonic crystal technology for optical communications devices, silicone resin formulations for defence applications, and advances using nanotechnology. We are now looking for:
