The Manufacturing Control Systems Engineer applies electro-mechanical equipment expertise and design / programming experience, for design, development and implementation of industrial manufacturing automation and control systems. The right candidate will have designed and maintained substantial manufacturing production lines with a focus on cost efficient and effective manufacturing and material handling. This is a key role in establishing and maintaining manufacturing as a competitive advantage.

SCOPE

In this position, you will be responsible for design, development and sustaining of a high volume solar panel production line. Your responsibilities will include; creating the overall product handling design scheme for future factories, providing RFQs for production equipment to suppliers and implementing material handling plans for existing and future factories. This position requires an engineer with a proven track record of creating and owning the entire automation and system controls development in support of manufacturing operations; this includes MES – Factory Automation – Material Handling interfaces. Additionally, you will provide support for existing product lines and support areas.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESFactory Start-up

  • Meet the equipment startup and production ramp schedules for the new factories.
  • Ownership of the equipment and process from qualification to full operation and ongoing equipment and process sustaining.
  • Coordinating conveyor, robot and bar code reader equipment installation and qualification in close partnership with the facilities team and the supplier.
  • Working with equipment suppliers ensuring compliance to equipment specifications and schedule.

Equipment and Process Management

  • Support and maintain production equipment to meet the ongoing production plan requirements for yield, uptime and throughput.
  • Ownership of conveyor and robot maintenance specifications.
  • Management of troubleshooting activities, regular monitoring of equipment and process performance, defect analysis and reduction.
  • Working with cross functional teams to solve technical process and defect issues.
  • Apply technical creativity and innovation skills to resolve technical issues and ensure that solutions are technically feasible and deployable.
  • Optimizes and debug high volume automated equipment.
  • Develop and improve product handling, processes and train production personnel.
  • Use statistical methods, SPC and TPM to establish maintenance intervals.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvements in safety, efficiency, yield, cost, and manufacturability
  • Generate continuous improvement projects to improve equipment metrics for yield, up time and throughput.
  • Optimize Equipment Performance
  • Continuous improvement through development and enhancement of new and existing manufacturing processes.
  • Identify, develop and implement production manufacturing improvements.
Production Support
  • Ensure all engineering and manufacturing documentation is in place, controlled and maintained.
  • Provide training to Engineers, Engineering Technicians and Operators on equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Define the preventive maintenance procedures, documents and spares.
  • Assist with the documentation of drawings, manuals and procedures.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS 

  • BS/MS degree in an Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years Control Systems experience in a high volume, fast paced production environment.
  • Ladder Logic and PLC programming
  • Write PLC codes and design/program HMI.
  • Fluency in Graphical User Interface (GUI) User Interface (UI), high speed data acquisition, high speed motion controls, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), Allen Bradley, GE Fanuc / Cimplicity, Rockwell, Siemens, C, C++, VC++, Java.
  • Working experience with Factory Automation Interface (FAI)
  • Hands-on experience with Manufacturing Execution systems and communication and messaging protocol.
  • Experienced with Servo, Motion Controllers and PLCs used in Manufacturing.
  • CAD skills – AutoCAD and Solid Works preferred.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills involving pneumatic, electrical, chemical delivery, 24V Control and PLC manufacturing equipment.
  • Dexterous with manufacturing equipment, basic tools and machinery.
  • Proficient at root cause analysis and Statistical Methods.
  • MS Word, MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Flowcharting, CAD
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation and training skills.
