Development Engineer III - Thin Films, First Solar, Inc

Basic Job Functions:

Develop improved TCO (transparent conductive oxide) film stacks on glass substrates for the front contact of the photovoltaic device. Design, execute, and analyze screening and optimization tests. Implement into production cost-effective glass substrates with high optical transmission.


Experience:

5+ years experience in engineering with exposure to high-volume manufacturing. Experience with design of experiments.

 

Education:

BS or MS degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a similar technical discipline required.


Required Skills:

Experience with thin film deposition equipment

Familiarity with the physics and materials science of transparent conductive oxides

Knowledge of semiconductor device physics

Familiarity with thin film characterization techniques and measurements such as XRD,SEM,SIMS,AFM,XPS etc

Preference for knowledge of glass compositions and glass durability testing methodologies

Demonstrated experience with statistical data analyses, such as Multivariate Analysis, Regression Analysis, Design of Experiments, and Measurement System Analysis.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and execute multi-factor experiments in a manufacturing production environment.

Experience with using statistical software (Minitab, JMP preferred)

Knowledge of MS Office software (strong knowledge of MS Access preferred)

Excellent communications skills

Proven organizational skills


Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Design, execute, and analyze multi-factor experiments.

Provide clear written and verbal direction to a team of technicians.

Evaluate and implement into production highly transparent glass substrates.

Participate in cross functional team reviews

Communicate results of engineering tests in a clear and concise manner.� Be able to communicate with upper management, development engineers, and technicians.

Ensure adherence to all Safety Procedures and Housekeeping standards..


Some travel required.
