Manufacturing Engineer, Applied Materials

Position Purpose:

Working under close supervision, is responsible for the Company's manufacturing engineering function as it relates to specific Division products, processes or work methods. Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.
Specific duties will vary according to Division objectives and departmental requirements.


Responsibilities:
Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies.

Interfaces with other engineering functions to coordinate the release of product improvements and/or new products. Launches, releases, approves and implements engineering change orders as required to support design engineering and floor with new and existing products.

Uses basic engineering and DFx principles to estimate and reduce manufacturing and/or product costs, and improve delivered product quality; determines time standards and makes recommendations for tooling and process requirements.

Writes and releases test procedures.

Gathers operational and test data and evaluates results.
Evaluates work methods, procedures and policies.

Assists in determining root cause analysis for issues that arise during assembly and/or test of systems.

Performs other duties as assigned. Duties will vary according to the project in progress and/or the specific goals of the department in which the incumbent works.

Leveling Factors

Scope:

Assignments at this level are limited in scope and require limited independent action and/or decision-making.
Usually works in a team which includes more experienced engineers; output is reviewed by peers and/or Supervisor/Manager.
Receive detailed instruction on assignments.

Complexity:

Develop solutions to problems of limited complexity.
Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily attained.

 

Impact:

Failure to achieve results can be overcome without serious effect on schedules and/or programs.

Interaction:

Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor and other engineers in the section or group; may contact customers and/or suppliers on a limited basis.

Job Specifications

Knowledge:

Require good understanding of manufacturing engineering discipline, theories, practices and principles.
Requires general knowledge necessary to perform the job function such as an understanding of the engineering change order process, DFx (Design for Excellence) engineering principles, engineering specification waiver process, producibility / manufacturability analysis, product structure, bill of materials, product safety requirements, and root cause analysis.

Skills and Abilities:

Require good skills in change management, problem solving, communication skills, customer orientation, product technology, personal effectiveness, team skills, and quality. Require knowledge of systems and software necessary to perform job function such as Lotus Notes, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Flowcharting, CAD, PDM, Oracle BOM, Oracle ECO, FRACAS, and/or BRIO.

Education and Experience:

INCUMBENTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:

BS level degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent.

0 - 2 years manufacturing engineering experience.

INCUMBENTS ARE PREFERRED WHO POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:

2+ years previous experience in manufacturing engineering.
