Software Engineer, Applied Materials
Position Purpose:The software development or deployment engineering function typically analyses, designs, programs, debugs, integrates and modifies computer programs for the Applied Materials software products. Develops requirements and design, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Supports product support organizations and customers as necessary. This intermediate position develops and executes software projects of difficult scope under general direction. The primary focus of the position is to define software projects taking into account the necessary requirements and schedule, design the software project, and then create code and fix software.
Responsibilities:
Develops code for software projects, and design and implement bug fixes.
Designs software projects.
Defines software specifications.
Interfaces with internal customers for requirements analysis and schedule.
Develops software documentation.
Troubleshoots a variety of difficult software problems.
Performs software tests on code and enhancements.
Interfaces with external customers regarding software issues.
Assists in technically leading, and/or executes software projects.
Knowledge:
Wide application of principles, theories and concepts in field plus working knowledge of related disciplines. Knowledge necessary to perform job includes general knowledge of software engineering concepts and techniques, extensive knowledge of relevant software languages, general knowledge of software development tools and environment, and may include general knowledge of real-time control concepts, tool diagnostics or Manufacturing Execution System.Skills and Abilities: Skills and abilities to perform job include strong analytical skills, strong oral and written communication skills, strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills, detail oriented, exercises mature judgment, ability to work in a team, ability to work independently, ability to influence other people, and ability to act as mentor.Extensive technology knowledge such as: C++, Oracle, Microsoft COM+ programming, Visual Basic, VS.Net, C#.Excellent communication in English.This position may require up to 40% travel both domestic and international to support customers. Education and Experience: MINIMUM:Knowledge and skills typically acquired by a completed BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent knowledge), and 3+ years directly related experience. PREFERRED:MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent knowledge), and 3+ years directly related experience.Preferred previous work experience includes software engineering with real time control or tool diagnostics or Manufacturing Execution System and complex system design.
