System Design Engineer, KLA Tencor

Responsibilities
Design, write and execute detailed test and characterization plans to test performance and reliability of complex patterned wafer inspection products. Define system and subsystem performance specifications. Create and monitor top-level system integration plans and validate system performance to specification. Hold requirements reviews, attend design reviews and develop associated engineering documentation. Provide engineering support for escalated manufacturing and field issues. Develop and improve diagnostic and calibration procedures. Interact and work with other engineering groups, marketing, field support and manufacturing groups in the course of the above duties.

Perform analysis to qualify systems for sensitivity and, more specifically, against sensitivity baseline shifts. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and calibrations as they impact sensitivity and performance. Attend software change control board meetings and hardware design review meetings to arbitrate issues that may impact system sensitivity. Duties also include writing detailed system analyses to quantify any allowable system changes that may influence the sensitivity baseline.

The successful candidate will have a multi-disciplinary background that allows understanding of optical systems, electro-mechanical systems and electrical sensor systems (CCDs and TDIs). This would include basic understanding of optical aberrations, frequency domain analysis techniques, vibration troubleshooting and electronic sensor signal to noise analysis. In addition to this knowledge base, this individual will be able to propose experiments based upon analysis (or model) and then be comfortable to collect the data in a hands-on fashion and conduct analysis in MATLAB (or other advanced analysis environment) to determine a conclusion.
