Principal Engineer - FTIR Gas Analysis Algorithms, MKS Instruments, Inc.

Position Summary:
Provide MKS On-Line - FTIR Products with high-level algorithm development expertise for developing and improving infrared spectral data analysis methods. Expand MKS and On-Line core data analysis methods specific for each market sector to better meet market demands. Work with regulatory bodies to address technical questions and encourage adoption of FTIR for new markets.

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing Univariate and Multivariate Chemometric techniques within the OnLine Product Group.
- Create innovative mathematical solutions that solve physical or chemical barriers to current methodologies.
- Collaborate with team members and lead the development of a new method analyses or algorithms for various projects as defined by management to help support on going activities.
- Create and apply multivariate analysis techniques applied to process parameter data for applications such as Statistical Process Control and Extractive Air Quality monitoring.
- Creating and apply multivariate analysis techniques to time varying data that are robust for use across multiple sensors.
- Create and implement GUI interfaces for group application/method testing and possibly for final product implementation.
- Provide training and development of staff expertise in the area of chemometrics
- Document all software and algorithms developed.
- Determine validation plans for demonstrating quality, robustness and accuracy of algorithms developed.
- Reports on progress of projects against agreed criteria
- Responsible for identifying issues and suggesting corrective action within projects
- Responsible for the Intellectual Properties of all tested and applied Chemometric techniques
- Present data at technical forums

Requirements:
- MINIMUM: Master's Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Math, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science or related field with emphasis on multivariate analysis
- DESIRABLE: PhD in Analytical Chemistry/Chemometrics
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial experience
- Ability to determine what data and method is required to produce the best solution to Process related issue.
- Capable of implementing novel Chemometric processes and techniques if required
- Programming experience with Chemometric Development software such as MATLAB or other packages required.
- GUI programming experience with LabView of Visual Basic is highly desirable.
- Strong mathematical analysis background and willingness to take the lead in finding and developing new analysis techniques
- Background in absorption spectroscopy
- Background in experimental chemical quantitative analysis
- Basic knowledge of gas-phase FTIR technology
- Recognized as an in-house resource in the field of chemometrics and statistics
- Preference to candidate with applied knowledge of infrared spectroscopy.
- Excellent analytical skills.
