Electrical Engineer III, MKS Instruments, Inc.

Position Summary: As a member of the Pressure Control product development team this individual will have responsibility for new product development and sustaining engineering activities. The candidate will work within a development team consisting of electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers technicians, PCB layout personnel, manufacturing engineering, and production. Products include embedded processors, stepper motor controllers, and precision analog electronics. Product interfaces include RS232, DeviceNet, Analog, and Ethernet.

Responsibilities:
- Develop simulation models or perform manual analysis as required to ensure robust design and resolution of problems
- Perform hands-on design, troubleshooting, and support for electronics for pressure control products.
- Responsibilities for new designs include component selection, circuit analysis, schematic design, layout, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, production test design, prototyping, and assisting with manufacturing transition.
- Responsibilities for sustaining and support work for existing products include replacement of obsolete components, resolving production problems, and continuous improvement of existing products.
- Sustaining responsibilities also include failure analysis for returned product, generating a corrective action plan, and implementing the corrective action plan. This may involve detailed root cause analysis, lab tests to reproduce customer conditions, and designing and setting up experiments to verify resolution of the problem.
- Document results of analysis or design verification experiments in written reports
- Provide support to manufacturing or repair groups
Qualifications and Requirements:
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering and 4+ years related experience
- Knowledgeable in analog and digital circuit design, and hardware implementation of embedded processors.
- Capable of performing component selection, block diagram, schematic, board design, board layout, assembly documentation, and manufacturing test requirements.
- Familiar with PCB manufacturing and testing techniques.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Have proficiency in using schematic diagram development tools (VIEWLOGIC), component layout tools (PADS), and simulation tools (SPICE).
- Experienced introducing new products to manufacturing
- Experienced with both analog and digital circuit design and analysis
- Experienced with embedded microprocessors
- Experienced with low voltage power supply design
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Familiarity with C and assembler desirable
- Familiarity with motor control highly desirable
- Hands-on laboratory experience
- Experience in serial communication protocols, RS232
- Experienced in new product development and introducing new products to manufacturing
- Experience in semi equipment industry is a plus.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems a plus
